Jinju Lantern Festival

A little history:

During the Japanese invasion of 1592, Korean general Kim Si-min sent lanterns floating down the Namgang River during a battle to ward the Japanese army from trying to cross as well as to communicate messages to families about the safety of Korean soldiers. Despite heroic military defensive tactics by the Korean army, Jinju fell under attack on June of 1593 when the Japanese army of 120,000 launched a second assault. A total of 70,000 Korean soldiers and civilians died in this bloody battle fighting for their country. The Jinju Namgang Lantern Festival was held in honor of the souls of these victims.

This is a 15 day festival and i'm hoping to go back again. All the lights on the river is a beautiful sight. The festival officially starts today so we saw a little preview. I think they have fire works on the last day.
