The Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is surrounded by traditional Chinese gardens and Kunming lake to the south. Built in 1750 and made famous by Empress Dowager Ci Xi who rebuilt it twice. The French and English destroyed it in 1860 and again in 1902 during the Boxer Rebellion. Our tour guide caller her the Dragon Lady.

The summer palace is a definite must see if you go to Beijing. I especially liked the walk down Longevity Hill after visiting the Tower of the Fragrance of Buddha. Stop and take a picture on the rocks with the Temple in the background. I also found a sweet spot to photograph the Seventeen Arch Bridge with my telephoto lense but the weather wasn't cooperating.

Thanks so much for the pictures and commentary about China! We are going to Beijing in 2 weeks. Any recommendations? We plan to see the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Tian'an Men Square- as well as go shopping in the markets.
