Years ago, I read Pearl Buck's Imperial Women and was fascinated by her description of life inside the Forbidden City. A palace where 24 Emperers ruled almost 500 years and most Chinese people never set foot. Unfortunately, due to preparations for the Olympics, was a lot of construction. I think we would have enjoyed this more if we had a guide. It is vast and we really just wondered aimlessly so I would do this differently if we go again. Not a great picture but there are 5 marble bridges that represent the 5 cardinal virtues of Confucianism.
